What it means

Economics matter

A small price can be impractical when fixed transaction, processing or accounting costs consume a large share of it. Systems may use batching, prepaid balances or payment channels to change those economics.

Choose the correct workflow

A direct on-chain transfer and a channel-based payment have different acceptance and recovery mechanisms. Businesses still need to track what was purchased, which payment succeeded and what happens after failure. A tiny amount does not remove consumer, tax or recordkeeping obligations that otherwise apply.

In practice

A concrete example

A content service charges for individual uses and evaluates whether its payment method’s total costs are suitable for that price point.

Technical notes & boundaries

Low-value payments are not necessarily free or instant. No specific fee, maximum amount or Lightning routing success is guaranteed by the term.
