Also known as SLA

What it means

Read the measurement rules

An SLA can address availability, support response or other defined metrics. The measured service, reporting period, exclusions and method of calculation are essential parts of the commitment. A headline uptime percentage is incomplete without those details.

Plan for failure as well

A contractual service target does not eliminate outages. Payment teams still need monitoring, escalation and recovery procedures. Check whether a remedy is a service credit, what evidence is required and whether a claim must be submitted within a deadline.

Related concepts

Failover, Application programming interface, Rate limiting.

In practice

A concrete example

A merchant reviews which API operations an uptime promise covers and documents how to claim a credit after a qualifying outage.

Technical notes & boundaries

An SLA is not a promise that no transaction will fail or that all losses will be compensated. Contract wording and applicable law determine enforceable rights.
