What it means
Clarify which split is meant
The term can describe dividing proceeds between sellers or allowing a buyer to use more than one funding method. A marketplace should state its intended meaning and distinguish customer charges from later transfers and payouts.
Account for later changes
Allocation rules need to cover fees, refunds, disputes, negative balances and partial fulfilment. Sending money to several recipients does not automatically create escrow or establish that all transfers are atomic. The provider’s supported payment model and legal responsibilities determine what the platform can do.

In practice
A concrete example
A marketplace records one customer charge and separately tracks the seller allocation, platform fee and any later refund adjustment.
